true enough: we cannot be happy in the future,
we can only be happy now, in the present
the same is true for unhappy

Ripples from a little-boat life
true enough: we cannot be happy in the future,

past and future exist only in the conversations we have about them
when does the past become the present and the present, the future?
living always occurs, only occurs, in the present
only now!
then is now!
only now!
being present, being here now, is not a choice or an act of will, but an outcome in living best characterized as a gift
sprinting amidst the concerns of everyday life we miss both the finite and the infinite now
it’s not only that life is short, but that it’s ever shorter
moments last longer, years go flying by
because we are human beings, we live in language;
because we live in language, we live in time;
because we live in time, we have a future;
because we have a future, we have concerns . . .
(Adapted from a talk by Fernando Flores circa 1985)
spirituality has to do with our mood around the ultimate questions that arise because we humans live in language and, thus, in time
this moment
is now
the next one
an eye blinks 20 times,
20 years pass by
