Author’s Bio

I write the short pieces you find here. Professionally, I consult and train in technical support and customer service delivery and management. Along the way I produced and co-authored The Art of Software Support. Previously, I held support management positions at Silicon Valley companies including Ingres, Netscape, Sybase, Alibris, and CaseCentral.

Before embarking on my tech support and service career, I owned and operated a retail business for seven years and practiced law for five.

In the 1970’s I helped found the environmental movement in Davis, California, where I participated in local political life and served on the City Council. During this time the city initiated energy conservation standards in its building code and implemented a planning policy committed to the preservation of agricultural land.

In the mid-1960’s I began an ongoing engagement with Asian philosophical traditions including various varieties of Buddhism, Taoism and Advaita. Beginning in the early 1980’s what I learned of philosophy from Fernando Flores and biology from the writings and videos of Humberto Maturana was stirred into the mix. In the 90’s I learned something of Chinese culture from Dr. Yun Chung Chiang of the Wen Wu School.

After graduating from Compton High School, I received B.A. and M.A. degrees in Sociology from UC Riverside and UC Davis, respectively, and a J.D. from King Hall School of Law at UC Davis.
